Teeth Cleaning

The American Dental Association has recommended that you and your entire family come in to our office for a regular dental checkup and cleaning at least every six months. Oral health is a very important part of your overall health, and making sure to receive a dental cleaning is a huge part of maintaining that oral health.

On average, your dental cleaning and checkup should only take between 20-30 minutes, so there’s no reason not to do it! Dental cleanings are essential when it comes to removing plaque and tartar buildup, which can’t be thoroughly and completely removed without professional assistance. If plaque and tartar are allowed to build up on the teeth, this can eventually lead to a variety of tooth issues, and even gum disease.

What To Expect During Your Dental Cleaning

  • First, our friendly and knowledgeable hygienist will examine your mouth for bleeding or swollen gums, sores in the tissues of your mouth, or any signs of tooth decay or infection. An assessment will also be made for the type of cleaning and routine that will best suit your needs.
  • During your cleaning, the tartar and plaque buildup on the teeth will be removed from your teeth using a variety of methods. The method used will usually depend on the amount of buildup on your teeth.
  • Once our hygienist is finished with the initial cleaning, Dr. Renee Shepherd will evaluate your mouth. This will include a review of the teeth, and gums, performing a cancer screening and addressing any concerns you may have about your oral health.
